Recruitment is now open for a Master’s student stipend!!!

Recruitment is now open for a Master’s student stipend within the project “Innovative treatment strategy for cystic fibrosis”, carried out at Jagiellonian University in Kraków under the First Team FENG programme of the Foundation for Polish Science, co-financed by the European Union.

The project focuses on developing new approaches to cystic fibrosis by combining CFTR gene correction with strategies aimed at reducing organ fibrosis. The selected student will be involved in in vitro human cell culture, genetic manipulation, histopathological and microscopic analyses, preparation of samples for sequencing, genetic analyses of CFTR-corrected cells, and bioinformatic data analysis.

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Master’s student with good organizational skills, proficiency in English, knowledge of cell culture methods, and at least theoretical knowledge of the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Candidates should be enrolled in a second-cycle degree programme in a field such as molecular biotechnology, biochemistry or biophysics.

The stipend is PLN 2,000 net per month and may be awarded for up to 20 months. The position can start no earlier than 1 November 2026.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, proof of student status, transcript of grades in relevant subjects, and an opinion from their former supervisor.

Application deadline: 19 October 2026
Applications should be sent to: sylwia.bobis@uj.edu.pl
Interviews are scheduled for 22 October 2026, and the results will be announced on 23 October 2026.

Meeting with parents of children with cystic fibrosis

On September 19, 2025, Dr. Sylwia Bobis-Wozowicz participated in a workshop for parents of children with cystic fibrosis, organized in Kraków by the MATIO Foundation.

During the event, Dr. Bobis-Wozowicz gave a lecture entitled “How to Repair a Faulty Gene and Cure Cystic Fibrosis?” in which she presented the objectives of the project. The meeting provided an opportunity for direct dialogue with parents of patients, as well as a chance to discuss the goals and significance of the ongoing research.

"Meeting with the parents was a very moving experience for me. We will make every effort within the project to support patient treatment," said Dr. Sylwia Bobis-Wozowicz after the workshop.

We start recruiting students for the Project!

A tri-fold brochure for the research group of PhD Sylwia Bobis-Wozowicz at Jagiellonian University. The cover includes the university logo, project title “Innovative treatment strategy for cystic fibrosis,” and a medical illustration comparing healthy and diseased airways. It lists symptoms such as recurrent respiratory infections, lung damage, digestion problems, and reduced life expectancy. One photo shows a woman using a microscope in a laboratory. Another photo features a group of eight young scientists and students standing together on stairs outside a modern building. Text describes the team’s mission to develop breakthrough therapies in regenerative medicine and gene therapy. Contact information for Dr. Klaudia Polakowska and a QR code for more details are included at the bottom.

A tri-fold brochure page showing members of a research team in white lab coats smiling and giving thumbs up in a laboratory hallway. A block of text explains that the group is implementing the project “Innovative Treatment Strategy for Cystic Fibrosis” using extracellular vesicles and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to develop novel therapies. Another photo shows a researcher using a microscope. Text on the left states the group focuses on harnessing the therapeutic potential of stem cells and extracellular vesicles in gene therapy and regenerative medicine. A list of services includes drug delivery using vesicles, genome editing, and cell reprogramming. A QR code links to more information.
