#start - cysticfibrosis

At the top, there is a banner containing four logos with captions, from left to right: European Funds for Smart Economy, Republic of Poland, Funded by the European Union, Foundation for Polish Science. Below, the caption: "Project: Innovative Treatment Strategy for Cystic Fibrosis." Below: First Team FENG.02.02-IP.05-0064/23. Below: "Cystic Fibrosis". Below, there is an illustration of a person (upper part of a body), coughing. The lungs are highlighted in red, and the pancreas is highlighted in yellow. The other digestive organs (liver, stomach, large intestine, and small intestine) are shown in gray. A small square shows a section of the lung, which is then enlarged. The enlargement shows a cross-section of the airways. On the left there is a schematic illustration of the cross-section of the airways of a healthy person, with open airways, and on the right, the airways of a sick person, filled with mucus, with very limited airflow. Above this, the caption reads: "Airways: Healthy (left), Diseased (right)." On the right side of the person there are six arrows that radiate outward, leading to the following captions: from top to bottom: "Secretory disfunctions," "Recurrent respiratory infections," "Lung damage and respiratory failure," "Digestion and absorption problems," "Poor growth and underweigh" and "Reduced life expectancy." Below the illustration, the caption reads: "Created in https://BioRender.com."

Project objective:

Development of an innovative therapy for cystic fibrosis using advanced technologies based on extracellular vesicles and genome editing tools(CRISPR/Cas9).

Planned tasks:

  • Correction of the CFTR gene responsible for disease onset in a lung epithelial cell line
  • Amelioration of pulmonary fibrosis symptoms in a mouse model
  • Attempt to achieve correction of the CFTR gene in experimental animals
  • Purchase of research equipment: hypoxic incubator, automatic vesicle fraction collector, FlowJo software

Target groups:

  • Cystic fibrosis patients
  • Patients affected by fibrotic diseases
  • Scientists working in the field of biomedical sciences
  • Technology recipients: companies in the biopharmaceutical industry interested in implementing new drug candidates
